Welcome to Peacock Pottery, where Polish Pottery is our passion!
How did Peacock Pottery start?
My name is Leah Derewicz and I am the founder and owner of Peacock Pottery, welcome to our online store!
I have LOVED Polish Pottery since my husband and I lived in Warsaw, Poland.
Before we returned to the States, we went shopping and purchased a full set of Polish Pottery dinnerware, bake ware and serving dishes to bring home.
The store owner, Anna, was fabulous. She has a small store in Warsaw. The store is filled from floor to ceiling with beautiful Polish Pottery, she knows every piece of her inventory and is a wonderful woman. I spent over an hour picking out a wide variety of patterns. Super excited to get home and use them!
After I arrived home to the states, we started a family. I am a stay at home mom and love every minute of it! But my dream, since I was a little girl was to own a boutique. When our son turned 2, I started thinking about that dream once again.
After researching many franchise and direct sales options, nothing really grabbed my attention. My husband mentioned that maybe I should start selling the Polish Pottery; it certainly was an intriguing option. But how would I start? I contacted a woman in Poland and started internet research and as they say "the rest is history". A few months after that conversation, Peacock Pottery was brought to life in November 2005, with the website going live in January 2006.
The Peacock Pottery name comes from the history of the pottery. The artists were inspired by the regal colors of the male Peacock and their eye. To this day, the green and cobalt blue colors are mainstays and the Peacock Eye can be seen in many patterns. It just made sense to me to name the business after the beautiful bird that started it all!
Are you new to Polish Pottery?
Here is why Polish Pottery is so special.
What is Polish Pottery? It is some of the most beautiful, original handcrafted pottery produced anywhere in the world. In the Western region of Poland called Silesia, the town of Boleslawiec is busy creating one of a kind dinnerware, glassware, linens, figurines etc. The history of this pottery dates back to the 7th century. Each piece is handmade from white clay, stamped using sea sponges, painted by hand, glazed and fired at high temperatures. Every piece is lead & cadmium free, unique, handpainted , durable and the perfect heirloom dishes.
These dishes are versatile enough for elegant dinner parties and every day casual family meals. These dishes are even "chip resistant" - great for everyday use. They can withstand dishwashers, ovens, microwaves and freezers. Although, it is recommended that all dishes come to room temperature from the freezer before placing in the oven.
We offer a large variety of patterns, we believe in purchasing multiple patterns and mixing up your dinner table! As we were told while living in Warsaw, multiple patterns make a happy table!
